experiencing ‘the light of rising tides’

at venice design week 2025

venice design week 2025 embraced the theme tempora — a reflection on the connection between past and future, where design becomes a dialogue between time, culture, and knowledge. Amid the city’s vibrant exhibitions, one installation captivated visitors and professionals alike: the light of rising tides, set at the historic riva ca’ di dio — a serene waterfront whose name, house of god, evokes centuries of venetian history and craftsmanship

conceived by mast, the light of rising tides invited visitors into a poetic underwater world where light and fabric flowed like waves. The installation featured 69152 pestrin by rubelli, a luminous fabric reminiscent of water’s surface shimmer, animated by ideolux’s responsive lighting technology

motion sensors activated waves of light that ebbed and flowed in rhythm with the sea, creating a dialogue between visitor and space. Every gesture — a hand brushing against the fabric, a footstep on the floor — became part of the performance, turning observation into participation

the structure took three days to assemble, balancing artistic vision with precise technical coordination. Once completed, it became one of the most visited installations at venice design week, drawing an international audience of designers, architects, and art lovers

visitors engaged in diverse ways: some brushed the fabric and watched light respond to their gestures; others stepped inside, immersed in its rhythm; while children, delighted by the interplay of light and motion, ran through the installation, discovering its dynamic energy
for the design community, it became more than an artwork — a study in how light, material, and movement can shape emotional space. It demonstrated the power of responsive design in transforming architectural environments into living experiences

the project was the result of a deeply collaborative process involving ceresio arredamenti, arte e design venezia associazione culturale, design33, hooroon, mast, and ideolux. Together, these partners blended design, technology, and craftsmanship to create an installation that was as poetic as it was interactive

this spirit of partnership reflects the essence of contemporary European design — where innovation meets cultural sensitivity and where collaboration drives ideas beyond boundaries. The installation’s seamless integration of material, motion, and light embodies the craftsmanship and precision that define the european creative landscape

following the event, the installation was carefully dismantled and stored indoors for protection during the winter. It is scheduled to be reassembled in march 2026 at the lido of venice, once again welcoming visitors to experience its dialogue between light, movement, and emotion

the light of rising tides stands as a reminder of why we value collaboration with visionary designers and brands — because when creative minds unite, ideas evolve into experiences that move people, connect stories, and inspire new possibilities
